Kidneys recovered from deceased donors with acute renal failure (ARF) - once deemed unusable for transplant - appear to work just as well as kidneys transplanted from deceased donors who do not develop kidney problems prior to organ donation, according to a new study by researchers at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Growing evidence suggests how individuals cope with and appraise disease-related pain, such as arthritis or cancer, is related not only to their experience with pain but also to their physical and psychological functioning, according to new research presented here today in a plenary session talk at the American Pain Society's annual scientific meeting.
The German Lung Cancer Screening Intervention Trial shows that the early repeat scan rate for suspicious findings decreased by more than 80% with the second and subsequent low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screens, but emphasizes the need to have an organized screening program with the baseline scan available for comparison.
Working to further the understanding of how the brain processes information, Valentin Dragoi, Ph.D., of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston has been awarded a three-year, $1.6 million award from the National Institutes of Health's Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies Initiative.
Theraclone Sciences, Inc., a therapeutic antibody discovery and development company, announced today that they have entered into a multi-year research and development collaboration with Pfizer. The collaboration will use Theraclone's I-STAR™ technology to discover broadly protective monoclonal antibodies against up to four undisclosed targets in the areas of infectious disease and cancer.
