Alimera Sciences Limited, the European subsidiary of Alimera Sciences, Inc., a pharmaceutical company that specializes in the research, development and commercialization of prescription ophthalmic pharmaceuticals, announced the availability of real world data from 28 injections of ILUVIEN (Fluocinolone Acetonide 190 micrograms intravitreal implant in applicator) in Europe, presented in a review paper authored by Fahd Quhill, Consultant Ophthalmologist, Department of Ophthalmology, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, U.K.
The Los Angeles Times: - "Under pressure from state regulators, Anthem Blue Cross has agreed to postpone its controversial rate increases of up to 39% for individual health insurance policies set for March 1. In an unusual conference call, California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner said Anthem executives told him Saturday morning that its March rate hike would not take effect before May 1 for 800,000 individual policyholders in the state" (Lifsher, 2/13).
The Obama administration wrote a new chapter Wednesday in the "if you like your health plan, you can keep it" chronicles, decreeing that plans it once derided as "junk" or "substandard" can remain in effect until October 2017 - long after the next presidential election. The point, administration officials say, is to help those in the market for individual or small-group plans make a smoother transition into Obamacare (Jon Healey, 3/5).
A prediction score that included such factors as age, blood pressure, heart and respiratory rate for patients who received out-of-hospital emergency care was associated with the development of critical illness during hospitalization such as severe sepsis, the need for mechanical ventilation or death, according to a study in the August 18 issue of JAMA.
