Emisphere Technologies, Inc. today announced that an independent Data Monitoring Committee ("DMC") informed Novartis and its partner Nordic Bioscience about their recommendation to proceed with the Osteoporosis ("OP") Phase 3 Study 2303 and the Osteoarthritis ("OA") Phase 3 Study 2301 exploring the safety and efficacy of an oral formulation of salmon calcitonin to treat patients with osteoporosis and osteoarthritis of the knee.
A new weight loss procedure that reduces the size of the stomach without the need for surgery known as endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is safe and effective way for the treatment obesity and obesity-related comorbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and fatty liver, according to a new study by NewYork-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine researchers.
A recent study shows that hundreds of genes contribute to cell growth and cell division. For the first time these genes, many of which are potential contributors to cancer, have been mapped in a single systematic study.

To achieve "approvable" status, CPSI worked with the Board to enhance the security of CPSI's medication management solutions and validate compliance with the Board's standards for the integration of positive caregiver identification.
"Sixteen countries in West and Central Africa are in the throes of a measles outbreak, at a time when there is a shortfall in funding for vaccination campaigns against the disease, two U.N. agencies said in a joint statement on Thursday," Reuters AlertNet reports (Fominyen, 4/22).
