The University of Arkansas will host the 2010 Advances in Breast Cancer Research workshop sponsored by the National Science Foundation on Oct. 26-29. The workshop will bring together researchers in nanotechnology, biomagnetics, microwave imaging, acoustics, laser and biochemistry fields with researchers from radiology, oncology and breast surgery.
Cancer may now be fought with a vaccine. The FDA has finally approved an immune boosting vaccine which is said to extend survival of patients at an advanced stage of prostate cancer by four months. This is twice as long as what could be expected with regular chemotherapy. There is also an increase of three years survival after detection in initial stage by 38% thanks to the vaccine.
Each year more individuals worldwide die from cancer than malaria, tuberculosis and HIV combined. With research showing that many cancers can be prevented with healthy lifestyle choices, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is working to raise awareness of preventive tactics in honor of National Cancer Prevention Month.
