Researchers from the Imperial College Faculty of Medicine in London in the United Kingdom revealed that the presence and size of a juxtaluminal black (hypoechoic) area (JBA) on carotid ultrasound of asymptomatic carotid artery plaques can predict the occurrence of ipsilateral ischemic stroke.
Researchers from the Department of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), in collaboration with researchers from the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), have developed an identification system for oocytes and embryos in which each can be individually tagged using silicone barcodes.
Johns Hopkins researchers have developed a method to efficiently turn human stem cells into retinal ganglion cells, the type of nerve cells located within the retina that transmit visual signals from the eye to the brain. Death and dysfunction of these cells cause vision loss in conditions like glaucoma and multiple sclerosis.
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. today announced results from the placebo group analyses of the ADAGIO study that were presented at the 62nd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Neurology. The ADAGIO study stands out from other Parkinson's disease trials as it is the largest clinical study conducted in patients who were still in the very early stages of their disease course (average time from PD diagnosis of 4.5 months).
