Judith Villablanca, MD, of The Saban Research Institute of Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Susan Kreissman, MD, of Duke University Medical Center, and colleagues reported the results of a randomized, phase 3 clinical trial conducted by the Children's Oncology Group examining the effect of selectively removing (purging) tumor cells from blood stem cells before they are transplanted back into patients with high-risk neuroblastoma following high-dose chemotherapy.

New cell therapy can boost immunotherapy against breast cancer

Boosting immune system T cells to effectively attack solid tumors, such as breast cancers, can be done by adding a small molecule to a treatment procedure called chimeric antigen receptor-T (CAR-T) cell therapy, according to a study by researchers at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

ACS and APSA address safe and effective pain control after surgery for children, teens

Given the current rates of opioid abuse in the U.S, it is critical that surgical patients understand how to safely use these pain-relieving medications and properly dispose of these substances when no longer needed.
