Weill Cornell Medical College and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons have announced that The Mortimer D. Sackler, M.D. Prize for Distinguished Achievement in Developmental Psychobiology has been awarded to The Rockefeller University's Dr. Fernando Nottebohm for his seminal work in songbirds that has led to the discovery of neuronal replacement.
Osseon Therapeutics, Inc., a biomedical device company based in Santa Rosa, California, today received a notice of allowance for its spinal vertebral compression fracture (VCF) technology. The company which was started in 2006 has thirteen additional patent applications pending in the United States and throughout the world for related spinal therapies and devices. The lead inventor for this inaugural patent is Dr. Y. King Liu, one of three founders of Osseon.
A team of scientists from the UC San Diego School of Medicine and Osaka University in Japan have identified a protein switch that helps prevent liver damage, including inflammation, fibrosis and cancer. The findings suggest that a better understanding of how the protein, TAK1, works could lead to new insights into the development of liver disease and cancer.
