The U.S. Food and Drug Administration sent a letter to Baxter Healthcare Corp. on April 30 ordering the company to recall and destroy all of its Colleague Volumetric Infusion Pumps (Colleague pumps) currently in use in the United States. This action is based on a longstanding failure to correct many serious problems with the pumps. The FDA believes there may be as many as 200,000 of those pumps currently in use.
A very aggressive type of cancer has provided a team of researchers supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation with an answer to the question of which tumor cells are at risk of spreading.
Calypso Medical Technologies, Inc., a developer of non-ionizing real-time localization technology used for the precise tracking of tumor targets, and Cancer Treatment Centers of America, a national network of hospitals providing a comprehensive, fully integrative approach to cancer treatment, announced today that with the installation of the Calypso System at the CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla., Calypso's real-time tumor tracking technology is now available at all CTCA centers nationwide.
Approximately one year after successful treatment with cytotoxic chemotherapy and radiotherapy, patients with advanced Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC), which primarily affects heavy smokers, generally relapse with recurrence of tumours that are resistant to further chemotherapy.
Researchers from the Hospital del Mar and Pompeu Fabra University have confirmed that messenger RNA vaccines pre-prepared in syringes for their administration can be transported by road for up to three hours.
