A small study suggests that adults whose parents are Holocaust survivors with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) appear to have lower average levels of the stress hormone cortisol than the adult offspring of parents without PTSD, according to a report in the September issue of Archives of General Psychiatry, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
The paper referred to in this article has been published in the European Journal of Public Health In summer, more dishes like gazpacho -a cold soup containing raw vegetables, bread, olive oil and vinegar- are consumed. A new study has revealed that gazpacho ingredients' vitamin C content as well as other organic acids is lower in the resulting mixture, meaning that it should be eaten immediately after preparation.
Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's "budget includes a big boost in spending on reducing malnutrition," with an increase for malnutrition programs of "58 percent in fiscal 2012-13 to 158 billion rupees, or about $3 billion," the Wall Street Journal's "India Real Time" blog reports.
Heartbeat International and Care Net, both of which oppose abortion rights, have launched initiatives to increase the number of crisis pregnancy centers, which "seek to dissuade women with unplanned pregnancies from having abortions," in inner cities nationwide to help minority women, the AP/Washington Times reports.
A team led by scientists at the UNC School of Medicine identified a molecule called microRNA-29 as a powerful controller of brain maturation in mammals. Deleting microRNA-29 in mice caused problems very similar to those seen in autism, epilepsy, and other neurodevelopmental conditions.
