David Griggs, Ph.D., director of biology at Saint Louis University's Center for World Health & Medicine, has received a $1 million R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health to investigate the development of what could be a new class of drugs to treat bone diseases.
For the last 100 years, researchers have constantly pushed the boundaries for our knowledge about medicine and how different bodies can respond differently to it.
NPR examined "the dying art of the physical exam" in its Monday morning health segment. Because of technology, "many doctors are abbreviating the time-honored physical exam - or even skipping it altogether. ... And it appears the trend is likely to get worse. ... At Stanford Medical School, professor Abraham Verghese is leading the charge to restore the physical exam to what he considers its rightful place, and bring doctors' skills up to snuff.
Rapidly swinging from extremes of joy and energy to sadness, fatigue, and confusion, bipolar disorder (BD) patients feel desperate and largely alone in the world. And according to the National Institutes of Health, between 25-50 percent of the roughly 3% of Americans living with BD attempt suicide at least once.
According to a new study high levels of platinum have been found in the hair, breast milk and other samples from women who had silicone gel-filled breast implants.
