According to customer service specialists at Health Plan One, an online insurance brokerage and Medicare information portal, while seniors have been inquiring about plans' physician networks, changes to drug formularies, and plan eliminations and introductions in their states, the top three most discussed topics surround plan cancellations, premium increases and Medicare supplement alternatives.
Patients with asthma who are black appear more likely to visit the emergency department or be hospitalized for the condition than those who are white, even in a managed care setting that provides uniform access to care, according to a report in the September 24 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine.
Bloomberg: "A tax on breast enhancements and other cosmetic care, similar to one proposed in the U.S. Senate's health-overhaul legislation, doesn't generate even a third of the $30 million a year originally projected for it in New Jersey, the only state with such a levy."
Physicians should include screening for psychosocial comorbidities and obesity when evaluating children with lower urinary tract dysfunction, say researchers.
