A study published in the February 2009 issue of the Journal of General Internal Medicine reports that a highly reliable depression screening tool known as the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) used across the United States and Europe can be effectively administered in resource poor Africa to HIV/AID patients, a population whose mental health needs have been underserved.
Region Skåne, one of Sweden's largest care providers, has signed a six-year agreement with IT and medical technology company Sectra.
NPR: The Food and Drug Administration is about to make changes to drug information — often filled with technical medical jargon — to help consumers understand the risks and benefits of the drugs they take. "University of Florida professor Carole Kimberlin worked with colleagues to sample leaflets from some 400 pharmacies across the country recently at the request of the FDA. They found wide differences. 'Some of them were as little as 30 words, while others were over 2,500 words,' she says.
On Wednesday, the World Food Program (WFP) said "it does not have enough funds to continue flying supplies by helicopter to western Nepal, where road access is patchy and around a million people rely on U.N. food aid," Agence France-Presse reports. According to the WFP, an estimated 41 percent of people in Nepal are undernourished.
