Lower socioeconomic status significantly increases risk of pain following knee replacement

Non-white race and lack of education are known risk factors for pain and poorer function after knee replacement surgery. What isn't clear is how a community's poverty level affects the outcomes of having a joint replaced. Findings from a new study conducted by researchers from Hospital for Special Surgery suggest that lower socioeconomic status at the community level significantly increases the risk of pain and poor function following a knee replacement.

Sangart reports positive data from MP4OX Phase IIa study in trauma patients

Sangart, Inc., today announced positive results from its Phase IIa proof-of-concept study of MP4OX (oxygenated pegylated hemoglobin) in severely injured trauma patients with hemorrhagic shock causing lactic acidosis. The study demonstrated that MP4OX, when given in addition to standard of care, was effective at decreasing lactate levels in treated patients.

Adults with AMD are accurate, but slower in performing touch screen tasks

Older adults with central vision loss caused by age-related macular degeneration (AMD) have no problem with accuracy in performing touch screen tasks, according to a study in the October issue of Optometry and Vision Science, official journal of the American Academy of Optometry.
