Distracted driving more prevalent in college students

According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (CADMV), distracted driving is on the rise due to an increase in the use of cell phones and other electronic devices and the increasing importance of these devices in individuals' lives. Studies have shown that phoning and driving increases the risk of crashes four-fold, with hands free and hand held devices equally dangerous. Texting increases this risk 8-16 times.

Mayo Clinic and collaborators to test new ways to provide specialized TBI care

For people who are hospitalized for traumatic brain injury, recovery may involve physical and cognitive problems that linger for years. The road back to health can be even more arduous for those who live in remote rural areas and don't have access to brain rehabilitation specialists. Mayo Clinic and collaborators, have received a $2.2 million federal grant to test new ways to provide specialized TBI care, with a focus on reaching rural areas and underserved urban populations.

Health care ad blitz expected to ramp up

Many of the statements made in health care TV ads are "misleading - if not flat-out wrong," The San Francisco Chronicle reports. Those statements include claims that reform would "'ration' care to the nation's oldest citizens and hike premiums '95 percent.'" Already, more that $67 million has been spent on TV advertising, according to Campaign Media Analysis Group, "and more misinformation and nastiness is expected when Congress returns next week."
