Underwriters partially exercise over-allotment option in Cadence public offering

Cadence Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that its underwriters partially exercised their over-allotment option in connection with its previously announced public offering that priced on November 11, 2010, by purchasing an additional 1,000,000 shares of its common stock at a public offering price of $8.00 per share. Including the over-allotment shares purchased, Cadence sold a total of 12,500,000 shares in the offering, resulting in expected aggregate gross proceeds to the company of $100 million.

Capella University introduces new DNP degree

Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high-quality online degree programs for working adults, announced a new Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. The DNP is the preferred credential for advanced practice nurses and will be the required terminal degree for the profession by 2015.

Study: Lack of insurance may have caused 17,000 child deaths over 20 years

"An estimated 17,000 children in the United States might have died unnecessarily over nearly two decades because they didn't have health insurance, according to a report from researchers at Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore," reports U.S. News and World Report.

Combination therapy improves tumor response in HER2-positive breast cancer patients

A combination of lapatinib, trastuzumab and paclitaxel significantly improved tumor response rates than either agent alone among patients with HER2-positive breast cancers, according to data presented at the 33rd Annual CTRC-AACR San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, held Dec. 8-12.

Anesthesiology: An anesthesiologist is trained to provide pain relief and maintenance, or restoration, of a stable condition during and immediately following an operation or an obstetric or diagnostic procedure. The anesthesiologist assesses the risk of the patient undergoing surgery and optimizes the patient's condition prior to, during and after surgery.
