Long-term consumption of caffeine has negative effects for Alzheimer's disease

A study coordinated by the Institute of Neuroscience of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and in collaboration with the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden provides evidence that a long-term consumption of caffeine has negative effects for Alzheimer's disease, worsening the neuropsychiatric symptoms appearing in the majority of those affected by the disorder. A two-year effort by the federal government and the nursing-home industry has reduced the use of powerful antipsychotic drugs among elderly nursing-home residents, but the decline fell short of the program's goal, according to U.S. officials (Lagnado, 8/26).

The anesthesiologist assesses the risk of the patient undergoing surgery and optimizes the patient's condition prior to, during and after surgery.
