The Palmetto Health Board of Directors has unanimously approved the establishment of Palmetto Health Quality Collaborative, LLC, often referred to as an accountable care organization. The Quality Collaborative will be a physician-led, patient-centered, interdependent medical entity that focuses on best practices in clinical outcomes and evidence-based care. Palmetto Health will soon begin offering the more than 1,000 physicians on its medical staff an opportunity to join.
A recent study published in the February 2015 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry demonstrates that children who were abandoned to institutional care have an increased risk for behaviors similar to those seen in children with autism, including impaired social communication.
A new ADD/ADHD study found that a multi-modal hemispheric based program significantly improved the participant's educational outcomes. The study, "The Effect of Hemispheric Specific Remediation Strategies on the Academic Performance Outcome of Children With ADD/ADHD," was conducted by a research team including, Gerry Leisman, Robert Melillo, Sharon Thum, Mark Ransom, Michael Orlando, Christopher Tice, and Frederick Carrick. The study appears in the current issue of the International Journal of Adolescent Medicine and Health.
Living wills and advance directives often don't ensure that dying patients receive the kind of medical care they want — or don't want — to receive. Now an effort being coordinated by the Center for Innovative Collaboration in Medicine & Law at the Florida State University College of Medicine hopes to improve communication and produce a clear set of medical orders for a dying patient's care.
