Discovery of compound that reverses the fertility clock

The reproductive years of a woman are at their peak before the age of 30. Beyond that, fertility starts to decline, and by the age of 40, fertility potential is about half the level it was before 30 years old. Many women experience fertility issues, but now a new study on mice may help reverse the clock on eggs, offering new fertility hope to older women.

PSI to provide operations and maintenance support to EHR for the Military Theater environment

Planned Systems International, Inc. (PSI), a respected provider of information technology (IT) solutions and services to the federal government, announces it has been awarded a task order by the Defense Health Information Management System (DHIMS) Program Office to provide operations and maintenance support to AHLTA-Theater (AHLTA-T), the military's electronic health record for the Military Theater environment.

Vertebroplasty reduces back pain and increases activity levels

A Mayo Clinic study has found patients report less back pain at rest and while active following vertebroplasty, a procedure in which medical cement is injected into painful compression fractures in the spinal vertebrae due to osteoporosis. Patients also reported improved function in their daily activities, such as walking, housework and getting dressed. The findings are published in the November/December issue of American Journal of Neuroradiology.

New non-toxic and environmentally friendly method for making tiny nanorods of zinc oxide

A non-toxic and environmentally friendly way to make tiny nanorods of zinc oxide has been developed for the first time by researchers in Saudi Arabia. The approach, described in the current issue of the International Journal of Nanoparticles, could allow the nanorods to be used safely in medical and for other applications.

Anesthesiology: An anesthesiologist is trained to provide pain relief and maintenance, or restoration, of a stable condition during and immediately following an operation or an obstetric or diagnostic procedure. The anesthesiologist assesses the risk of the patient undergoing surgery and optimizes the patient's condition prior to, during and after surgery. In addition to these management responsibilities, the anesthesiologist provides medical management and consultation in pain management and critical care medicine.
