FDA evaluates Phase III randomized trial in acute myeloid leukemia

VION PHARMACEUTICALS, INC., announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") had responded to its Special Protocol Assessment ("SPA") request to evaluate the Phase III randomized trial HOVON AML 92 sponsored by the Dutch-Belgian Cooperative Group for Hematology Oncology ("HOVON") of its lead product Onrigin(TM).

Global project to find biological activity in sea organisms suitable for pharmaceutical products

Researchers at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Helsinki are co-ordinating an extensive project which aims to find biological activity from among organisms in the sea which would be suitable for use as a basis for pharmaceutical products. Interesting compounds isolated from organisms in the sea are chemically modified to be more suitable for medical purposes.

Study finds increased risk of pregnancy-associated stroke among young women

Pregnancy was not found to raise the risk of stroke in older women, according to a study from Columbia University Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian. In younger women, however, the risk of stroke was significantly higher for those who were pregnant.

The study was designed to determine that long-wave infrared imaging can be used to identify skin temperature changes associated with underlying tissue changes. We wanted to determine if the use of Long Wave infrared imaging is as effective as the Braden Score in predicting nosocomial pressure ulcers.

Anesthesiology: An anesthesiologist is trained to provide pain relief and maintenance, or restoration, of a stable condition during and immediately following an operation or an obstetric or diagnostic procedure. The anesthesiologist assesses the risk of the patient undergoing surgery and optimizes the patient's condition prior to, during and after surgery. In addition to these management responsibilities, the anesthesiologist provides medical management and consultation in pain management and critical care medicine.
