The George Washington University will celebrate the first anniversary of its School of Nursing by hosting a panel on the future of nursing, followed by a reception with remarks from Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources, Dr. William A. Hazel, Jr. and Executive Director of the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Dr. Karen Drenkard.
In the state of Texas, 59 percent of our child care operations are located in home-based environments, yet state and local quality improvement programs often overlook this important group. The Children's Learning Institute at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), in partnership with Gov. Rick Perry's Texas Early Learning Council, has taken a step forward in addressing the quality of these operations by offering free training for up to 300 home-based child care providers in the state.
Visterra, Inc., a developer of novel antibody therapeutics to prevent and treat major infectious diseases, today announced that it has secured an exclusive patent license from Massachusetts Institute of Technology to a family of early-stage monoclonal antibodies that target dengue virus. These antibodies were developed by MIT in the laboratory of Dr. Ram Sasisekharan, a founder of Visterra, using novel protein engineering approaches. Visterra will apply its proprietary network analysis technology to develop a human monoclonal antibody product candidate capable of broadly neutralizing all four dengue virus serotypes.
The bark of the Amur cork tree (Phellodendron amurense) has traveled a centuries-long road with the healing arts. Now it is being put through its paces by science in the fight against pancreatic cancer, with the potential to make inroads against several more.
