Signaling pathway reveals mechanism for B cell differentiation in immune response

An article in Science Signaling by researchers at the RIKEN Research Center for Allergy and Immunology (RCAI) has clarified for the first time the mechanism governing differentiation of B cells into antibody-producing plasma cells. The finding establishes a role for the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) signaling pathway in B cell differentiation, a key step toward the development of B cell-targeted drugs for treatment of autoimmune diseases and allergies.

Hydrogen sulphide may be involved in regulating blood pressure

Hydrogen sulphide is a gas most commonly associated with the smell of stink bombs, sewage and rotten eggs, but a team of researchers from the Peninsula Medical School in the South West of England and King's College London have now identified a role for this gas in regulating blood pressure, according to research published in the leading science journal "Circulation".

House delays vote on repeal of health care law

In the wake of the shooting rampage today in Tucson, Ariz., at an event held by Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the House has postponed all legislative business for the next week. This most importantly includes the vote to repeal President Obama's health care law, which was scheduled for Wednesday and would have be the first major vote of the House since Republicans took control last week.
