NLC awards grants to eight cities to help enroll children, families in Medicaid and CHIP

To help implement local outreach efforts to enroll children and families in Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program, the National League of Cities today awarded grants and technical assistance to eight cities.

Fecal transplant procedures performed at Sinai Hospital

Sudhir Dutta, M.D., head of the Division of Gastroenterology at Sinai Hospital, performed fecal transplant procedures for two patients with severe clostridium difficile (C. difficile) colitis that did not respond to routine antibiotic and other treatments. C. difficile causes symptoms ranging from mild diarrhea to more serious, sometimes life threatening colon inflammation.

Scientists find 23 new genetic variants that increase risk for prostate cancer

In an analysis of genetic information among more than 87,000 men, a global team of scientists says it has found 23 new genetic variants - common differences in the genetic code - that increase a man's risk for prostate cancer. The so-called "meta-analysis," believed to be the largest of its kind, has revealed once hidden mutations among men in a broad array of ethnic groups comprising men of European, African, Japanese and Latino ancestry.

USFDA approves Dr. Reddy's ANDA for Fondaparinux Sodium Injection

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories and Alchemia Limited, Brisbane, Australia announced today that Dr. Reddy's has received final approval of Dr. Reddy's ANDA for Fondaparinux Sodium Injection, a bioequivalent generic version of Arixtra, in the US market on July 11, 2011 by the United States Food & Drug Administration.
