MDI raises $1.4M as part of follow-on to its $3.3M Series C financing round

Molecular Detection Inc., a company developing Detect-Ready assays designed to increase the speed and accuracy of infectious disease diagnosis, today announced the first close of a new financing. The financing was led by MentorTech Ventures II, LP and included Robin Hood Ventures, Elm Spring Holdings and the Mid-Atlantic Angel Group Fund I and II, LP, all existing investors. The company raised $1.4 million as part of a follow-on to its $3.3 million Series C round announced in late 2009.

Stress management treatment reduces formation of new brain lesions in people with MS

Research conducted by Jesus Lovera, MD, Assistant Professor of Neurology at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans, and colleagues has shown that stress management treatment significantly reduced the formation of new brain lesions in people with multiple sclerosis (MS) over the course of treatment.

SARS-CoV-2 antibodies detected in breast milk of vaccinated mothers

Now, a new medRxiv* preprint study finds mothers vaccinated either one of the messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines transferred neutralizing antibodies and cytokines, including interferon-gamma (IFNγ), to a breastfeeding child. Additionally, the humoral response in breastmilk was effective in neutralizing four variants of concern.

Ebola crisis increases susceptibility to measles, other vaccine-preventable illnesses

Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health researchers say that major disruptions in the health care systems in West Africa caused by the Ebola crisis have led to significant decreases in vaccinations for childhood diseases, increasing susceptibility to measles and other vaccine-preventable illnesses.
