MedStar Washington Hospital Center's Ebola Response Team has been honored with the 2015 Patient Safety Award from the District of Columbia Hospital Association. The award recognizes the team's outstanding efforts in its Ebola-related plans and training to care for potential or confirmed patients with the Ebola virus.
Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in Ontario. Screening for lung cancer using low-dose computed tomography has been the subject of many research studies since the 1990s. The National Lung Screening Trial compared LDCT with chest radiograph in high-risk populations and found a 20 percent reduction in lung cancer mortality at 6 years with LDCT after an initial scan and two annual rounds of screening.
"A national business lobbying group on Friday joined 20 U.S. states in a lawsuit challenging President Barack Obama's overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system. The joint lawsuit led by Florida and now grouping 20 states was filed on March 23 by mostly Republican attorneys general." The suit claims the law "violates state government rights in the U.S. Constitution and will force massive new spending on hard-pressed state governments" (Brown, 5/14).
The automatic detection and identification of electroencephalogram waves play an important role in the prediction, diagnosis and treatment of epileptic seizures. Unfortunately, in previous experiments, training data and test data from electroencephalogram signals are often derived from the same cases, which may affect the clinical applicability of the classifiers.
