New treatment for oxygen-starved newborns

Until now immediate cooling of the newborn infant was the only treatment that could possibly prevent brain damage following oxygen deprivation during delivery. New research findings from the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Sweden, in collaboration with Zhengzhou University in China, open up the possibility of a new and effective treatment that can be started as late as two days after birth.

HAART stops brain damage caused by HIV

A combination of drugs widely used to treat infections caused by HIV appears to stop brain damage caused by the virus as well, according to a study published in the October 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

A team of scientists from Princeton University and The Cancer Institute of New Jersey has embarked on a major new project to unravel the secret lives of cancer cells that go dormant and self-cannibalize to survive periods of stress. The work may help produce new cancer therapies to stem changes that render cancer cells dangerous and resistant to treatment.

United Therapeutics' revenues increase by $24.4 million in second quarter 2015

United Therapeutics Corporation today announced its financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2015. "Orenitram sales grew nearly 300% as compared to the second quarter of 2014 when the product was first launched," said Roger Jeffs, Ph.D., United Therapeutics' President and Co-Chief Executive Officer.
