Framingham cardiovascular risk prediction model from the 1990s still gives the best results

The so-called Framingham cardiovascular risk calculator was developed in 1991 on the basis of data gathered in the USA between 1968 and 1975. It is named after the town of the same name in Massachusetts, where a systematic evaluation of heart health had previously been conducted in the late 1940s.

BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc., today announced completion of enrollment in its ongoing LibiGel (testosterone gel) Phase III cardiovascular and breast cancer safety study. Surgery may offer best chance of long-term prostate cancer survival

A study from Switzerland suggests that men who have surgery for prostate cancer appear less likely to die of the disease within 10 years than men who choose other treatment options, especially if they are younger or have cancers with certain tumor cell characteristics, according to a report in the Oct. 8 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.

PSI second-quarter 2010 revenue increases 10.4% to $502.7 million

Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. today announced financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2010. Revenue increased 10.4% for the quarter to $502.7 million from $455.3 million for the second quarter of 2009. Income from continuing operations attributable to PSI stockholders increased 12.9% to $39.0 million for the second quarter of 2010 from $34.6 million for the second quarter last year, and 11.3% per diluted share to $0.69 from $0.62.
