NSBA today released its 2009 Year-End Economic Report which shows small businesses continue to struggle under the lagging economy and the ongoing credit crunch. The number of small businesses citing decreases in revenue over the past 12 months rose to its highest point since 1993, and 39 percent report they are unable to get adequate financing for their business.
The Texas Medical Board last week adopted rules requiring physicians to gain written and notarized parental consent before performing an abortion on a minor, the Houston Chronicle reports (Ross Hughes, Houston Chronicle, 9/1).
The study results revealed that patients with a history of heart disease who stopped taking a low-dose daily aspirin had a 60% increased risk of having a heart attack over the three-year follow-up, compared with patients who continued the daily aspirin, says study researcher Luis A. Garcia Rodriguez, director of the Spanish Center for Pharmacoepidemiologic Research (CEIFE) in Madrid. The study is published in the British Medical Journal.
Swift Biosciences Inc., a Michigan-based life sciences company, today announced the recent completion of a $3 million Series A financing led by the venture firm DFJ Mercury. DFJ Mercury was joined in the Series A by several Michigan-based individual investors who also helped launch the Company with seed funding in January 2010.
