Women suffering from domestic violence at greater risk of mental health problems

In addition to their physical injuries, women who are victims of domestic violence are also at a greater risk of mental health problems such as depression and psychotic symptoms. CPAP treatment effective in patients with obstructive sleep apnea and hypertension

Among patients with obstructive sleep apnea and hypertension that requires 3 or more medications to control, continuous positive airway pressure treatment for 12 weeks resulted in a decrease in 24-hour average and diastolic blood pressure and an improvement in the nocturnal blood pressure pattern, compared to patients who did not receive CPAP, according to a study appearing in the December 11issue of JAMA.

Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute presents new findings on heart transplantation rejection factors

Physician scientists at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute are presenting new findings on heart transplantation rejection factors such as race and gender, the effects of pre-transplant smoking and whether homeless organ donors put recipients at higher risk for complications. The presentations will take place April 21 - 24 in Chicago during the 30th Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
