NORD urges FDA to reduce regulatory uncertainty in developing medicines for rare disorders
Noting that only about 200 of the nearly 7,000 diseases classified as rare currently have treatments, the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) today called for a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) statement of policy on regulation of therapies for rare disorders.
OHRI, uOttawa to lead first stem cell therapy trial for septic shock

NIAID researchers initiate trial of DAS181 in patients with asthma, bronchiectasis
NexBio, Inc. announced today the initiation of a trial of DAS181 (Fludase®) in patients with the respiratory conditions asthma and bronchiectasis, being conducted by researchers with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Extra dose of proton radiation therapy reduces prostate cancer recurrences
Men who receive a "boost" of proton therapy after receiving a standard course of X-ray radiation therapy have fewer recurrences of their prostate cancer compared to men who did not receive the extra dose of proton radiation, according to a first-of-its-kind study presented November 2, 2009, at the American Society for Radiation Oncology's 51st Annual Meeting in Chicago.
