NCCN experts recommend bevacizumab for treating metastatic breast cancer

The Expert Breast Cancer Panel of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) met July 10-12, 2011 in Philadelphia, PA. At the meeting, the multidisciplinary breast cancer experts voted in favor of maintaining the current position and recommendation in the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology for Breast Cancer on the use of bevacizumab in metastatic breast cancer.

Premiums for employer-sponsored family health insurance increased by 50 percent from 2003 to 2010, and the annual amount that employees pay toward their insurance increased by 63 percent as businesses required employees to contribute a greater share, according to a new Commonwealth Fund report that examines state trends in health insurance costs.

Missed opportunities for addressing HIV testing remain unacceptably high

The researchers, led by Jeffrey Samet, MD, professor of medicine at BUSM and chief of General Internal Medicine at Boston Medical Center (BMC), performed a 10-year retrospective chart review of patients seen at an HIV intake clinic between January 1994 and June 2001 who: 1) tested positive for HIV during the 12 months prior to their presentation at the intake clinic and 2) had one or more encounters recorded in the medical record prior to their HIV positive status.
