Researchers discover new procedure for treatment of uterine fibroids

Jersey Shore University Medical Center announces today that Mark Martens, M.D., chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology, performed the first Acessa procedure in New Jersey. The procedure is used for the treatment of uterine fibroids. Additionally, Jersey Shore's Jocelyn A. Carlo, M.D., Obstetrics/Gynecology, is performing the procedure.

Hoyer: House could be in session until late December

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) today said "he is prepared to extend the House healthcare schedule into late December in order to pass healthcare reform," The Hill reports. "Two weeks ago, Hoyer said that the House could work as late as Nov. 24 in order to pass healthcare reform. FDA advisory committee postpones Panel review of Gen-Probe's PROGENSA PCA3 Assay

DiagnoCure, Inc., a life sciences company that develops and commercializes high‐value cancer diagnostic tests, announced today that Gen-Probe Incorporated, its commercial partner for the PCA3 test, received notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that the PROGENSA PCA3 Assay will not be reviewed by the Immunology Panel of FDA's Medical Devices Advisory Committee on October 14, 2011 as previously scheduled, but will be reviewed by the Panel at a later date.
