Outcome of surgery on the elderly could be affected by red blood cell count

Researchers in the United States have found that older patients about to undergo major surgery, who have either a high or low red blood cell count, are more at risk for heart attacks or even death following the operation.

CPTC offers training program for firefighters to help reduce health-related deaths and injuries

Firefighter deaths due to heart attacks may not be due to bad diets, but from exposure to hydrogen cyanide in fire smoke. Nationally, six firefighters have literally dropped dead from heart attacks after coming off of a shift of smoky fires and more than 100 were treated or hospitalized for smoke inhalation since January 1.

Prematics extends multi-year contract with Availity to provide e-prescribing services

Prematics, the leader in e-prescribing and care communication services, today announced a multi-year contract extension with Availity LLC, a national leader in health information exchange. Availity offers Prematics' e-prescribing services under the CarePrescribe private label. Per the terms of the agreement, Prematics will continue providing e-prescribing services to Availity through 2013, and add its Care Communication services for existing and future CarePrescribe users.
