Putting just a tiny piece of the wall of detoxified E. coli into their gut make mice lose their natural sweet tooth, researchers report.
Aradigm Corporation today announced it received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its inhaled liposomal ciprofloxacin Investigational New Drug (IND) application. The first trial planned under this IND is a Phase 1/2a, multicenter study designed to evaluate the pharmacokinetics, safety, and tolerability of once-daily administration of 150 mg (3 mL) of Ciprofloxacin for Inhalation (CFI, ARD-3100) in pediatric patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) who have a history of chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa lung infection.
"This is the largest case-control study ever conducted, and the first to suggest that family history of schizophrenia raises risk for autism, independently of obstetric factors," said William W. Eaton, PhD, study co-author and professor and chair of the Bloomberg School's Department of Mental Health.
According to the World Food Programme, 805 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life, and poor nutrition causes nearly half (45 percent) of deaths in children under five years old – that's 3.1 million children each year. In the fall of 2014, global consulting firm Protiviti launched its year-long i on Hunger initiative as part of the fight to help end world hunger.
In a new research our worst fears are confirmed – fatty, fried and fattening foods are addictive. The addiction with these delicious ‘yummies' may be as potent as that with cocaine or heroin. The study was conducted on experimental animals, rats in this case. When fed with fatty foods in great quantities these rats showed a compulsive need to eat.

The arteriovenous (AV) fistulae is considered long term vascular access for hemodialysis because it allows good blood flow, lasts a long time, and is less likely to get infected or cause blood clots than other types of access.
