Every few years Georgia — and the rest of the country, for that matter — experiences a severe shortage of nurses. Only this time it's different, experts say. This time there are no easy solutions — no way to import nurses from other countries to practice in the state; no way to open up more slots at nursing schools and technical colleges to crank out more registered nurses to help ease the shortage.
InVivo Therapeutics, a company focused on the development of groundbreaking technologies for the treatment of spinal cord injuries, today announced that Chief Science Officer Dr. Christopher Pritchard, Ph.D., has been selected as the 2011 recipient of the American Spinal Injury Association's prestigious Apple Award.
Chris and Dennis Cavner, in their early 70s, are preparing to move less than two blocks away into a 2,720-square-foot, ranch-style house they bought this year. But first a renovation is underway, taking the 45-year-old property all the way back to its studs.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Innovation Center will administer the program, which was created by the 2010 health law. Five hundred medical practices have been selected to participate.
