As new COVID-19 variants begin to throw vaccine efficacy in question, two leading scientists are calling for health agencies to invest in the development of vaccines that would be broadly effective against many different variants and strains of potential pandemic viruses.
A new study from MIT implicates a family of RNA-binding proteins in the regulation of cancer, particularly in a subtype of breast cancer. These proteins, known as Musashi proteins, can force cells into a state associated with increased proliferation.
Noting USAID last week "released its first progress report examining how reforms enacted three years ago have strengthened the agency's relentless focus on results," Nicole Schiegg, a senior adviser at the agency, writes in the GlobalPost's "Global Pulse" blog, "One of the strongest examples of leveraging innovation and partnership is USAID's contribution to ending preventable child deaths."
The time to maximal sugar level during an oral glucose tolerance test is associated with higher risk for prediabetes and could give important information about the ability of the pancreas to secrete insulin, according to research presented at the Endocrine Society's 99th annual meeting, ENDO 2017, in Orlando, Fla.
