Chicago Tribune: Doctors at Illinois hospitals are coming under closer scrutiny after a report questioned the use of "double CT scans," which subjected patients to higher radiation. For some procedures, doctors scanned once using a dye once and once without at a rate higher than in other states. "The hospital launched an investigation, and physicians began to focus on curbing use of the scans.
Taking cannabidiol may cut seizures in half for some children and adults with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), a severe form of epilepsy, according to new information released today from a large scale controlled clinical study that will be presented at the American Academy of Neurology's 69th Annual Meeting in Boston, April 22 to 28, 2017.
One of the human body's protective mechanisms initiated by the TRAIL protein is massively altered in prostate cancer cells - yet the same protein seems to improve the survival prospects of patients. These outstanding results of a cooperative venture between the Clinical Program on Urological Tumours at the Medical University of Vienna and Harvard Medical School, USA, have just been published. They show that the TRAIL protein opens up the prospect to a more accurate prediction of the disease's course, as well as the opportunity to identify a new intervention point for innovative therapies in advanced prostate cancer.
W.L. Gore & Associates (Gore) today announced that it has received European CE Mark approval for the next generation GORE TAG® Thoracic Endoprosthesis. The device is available in an expanded portfolio of sizes to meet a broad range of patient needs and was engineered to treat multiple etiologies including thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAAs), traumatic aortic transections and thoracic aortic dissections.
