Boston Scientific Europe announced the launch of the RESONATE™ cardiac resynchronisation therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) systems in Europe, a new family of devices featuring SmartCRT technology, which recently received CE Mark and are now available for heart failure patients across Europe.
Scientists hope that tiny sacs of material excreted by cells - so-called extracellular vesicles - can be used to deliver drugs inside the body. Researchers at Karolinska Institutet now show that these nano-bubbles can transport protein drugs that reduce inflammation caused by different diseases.
Although black and Hispanic veterans with chronic kidney disease are more likely than white patients to see a kidney specialist- a nephrologist- they are more likely to suffer disease progression from early stage to advanced kidney disease, reports a study published this month in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology from researchers at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
Sight and hearing are the two main sensory modalities allowing us to interact with our environment. But what happens within the brain when it perceives a threatening signal, such as an aggressive voice? How does it distinguish a threatening voice from the surrounding noise? How does it process this information? To answers these questions, researchers from the University of Geneva Switzerland, studied brain activity during the processing of various emotional voices.
