Generic drug makers released a study Thursday that found generic pharmaceuticals have saved the U.S. - through private prescriptions as well as Medicare and Medicaid - more than $1 trillion over 10 years.
Quitting smoking is certainly healthy for the body, but doctors and scientists haven't been sure whether quitting makes people happier, especially since conventional wisdom says many smokers use cigarettes to ease anxiety and depression. In a new study, researchers tracked the symptoms of depression in people who were trying to quit and found that they were never happier than when they were being successful, for however long that was.
At a time when nearly 26 million Americans have diabetes and an estimated 79 million have pre-diabetes, JEWEL-OSCO, part of the nationwide SUPERVALU INC. family of grocery stores, is announcing its "Eating Healthy with my Diabetes" in-store tours for 2011.
An annual survey shows that doctors, on average, still make at least three times the annual median household income. Media outlets also describe other trends, including the return of house calls, often as part of hospital palliative care programs, the use of scribes to help with digital records, rushed doctors' visits and a study finding that free drug samples influence doctors' prescribing practices.
NHS Stop-Smoking Services are insufficient to deliver national smoking targets, and Government smoking targets are themselves insufficient for the poorest communities, says a study published online by the BMJ.
