Mologic Ltd, a leading developer of lateral flow and rapid diagnostic technologies, today announced that it has started a major clinical trial to validate the Company's urine-based multi-biomarker self-test, Headstart, for the early detection of exacerbations in patients living with moderate to severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease .
A translational, multicenter study carried out by research groups of the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute, San Juan de Dios Hospital, the University of Barcelona, Clinic Hospital, the University of Vic, Santa Creu i Sant Pau Hospital and the thematic area of Rare Diseases, has unveiled the potential of D-serine - a dietary supplement - to improve the neuronal function of a patient with a mutation of the glutamate receptors associated to atypical Rett syndrome with severe encephalopathy.
Genocea Biosciences, a vaccine discovery and development company, today announced an exclusive worldwide license for developed countries to a portfolio of Streptococcus pneumoniae antigens from Children's Hospital Boston. PATH and Genocea retain certain co-exclusive rights to the antigens for use in developing countries under their collaboration agreements with Children's Hospital Boston.
Researchers have tied mutations in a gene that causes amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and other neurodegenerative disorders to the toxic buildup of certain proteins and related molecules in cells, including neurons. The research, published recently in the scientific journal Cell, offers a new approach for developing treatments against these devastating diseases.
