A kidney recipient in a New York City hospital recently contracted HIV from the transplanted organ, which came from a living donor, according to the New York State Department of Health. Although an initial screening had been performed on the donor, he or she apparently had unsafe sex after the test but before donating the kidney.
A team of engineers and scientists at The University of Texas at Austin is reporting new findings on how the influenza vaccine produces antibodies that protect against disease, research that suggests that the conventional flu vaccine can be improved.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced today it is awarding up to 29 new grants, totaling up to $25 million over three years, to expand use of health information technology to increase access to behavioral health services.
Researchers are currently recruiting patients with civilian post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for a clinical research study called the COPE study. People who are having symptoms after experiencing a traumatic event or who have been diagnosed with PTSD may be eligible to participate in this study of a new investigational drug.
The Sohn Conference Foundation today announced a $50,000 grant to support funding of a Phase 2 cutting-edge pediatric clinical trial from the Neuroblastoma and Medulloblastoma Translational Research Consortium (NMTRC) now extending to New York City.
