Sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Researchers at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory have discovered that two cell mutations, already harmful alone, enhance one another's effects, contributing to the development of the deadly blood cancer acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
A new study designed to test suspected links between genes and two immune disorders could open the door to better ways to diagnose and treat the conditions that affect a combined total of approximately 2.5 million people in the United States, report scientists at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).
Doctors should not only treat the heart muscle in chronic heart failure patients, but also their leg muscles through exercise, say researchers in a study published today in the Journal of Applied Physiology.
The results of a new Phase III clinical trial have demonstrated that a new class of drugs, called "NK-1 receptor antagonists," is more effective at reducing vomiting after surgery than the most commonly used drug, according to the Duke University Medical Center researchers who led the trial.
