New research published in Science Advances investigates the relationship between wildfire smoke and COVID-19 mortality using pollution and COVID-19 incidence and mortality data.
Researchers from Sweden say that women who have been treated for cervical precancer should receive lifelong follow-up, after finding that their risk for dying from vaginal or cervical cancer markedly increases after the age of 60 years.
It's been known for more than two centuries that pneumonia cases increase during flu epidemics. But population-level epidemiological studies looking at seasonal patterns of influenza and pneumococcal pneumonia incidence have revealed either a modest association or have failed to identify any signature of interaction between the two.
Two new studies developed algorithms that can identify patients who are at risk of acquiring HIV and may benefit from preventive care. Both studies appear in the July 5 issue of The Lancet HIV.
