All too often, patients with high levels of antibodies face major challenges getting a transplant. These highly sensitized patients have a much higher risk of death while waiting for suitable organs they are less likely to reject.
Forgiveness is a complex process, one often fraught with difficulty and angst. Now, researchers in the University of Missouri College of Human Environmental Sciences studied how different facets of forgiveness affected aging adults' feelings of depression.
Researchers at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery and the Technion in Israel have found a new role for the SHARPIN protein. In addition to being one of three proteins in the linear ubiquitin chain assembly complex, regulating NFκB and other inflammatory molecules, SHARPIN modulates PRMT5, an epigenetic master switch that controls several proteins linked to melanoma. The research was published in The Journal of Clinical Investigation.
Quest Diagnostics, the world's leading provider of diagnostic information services, announced today that it has acquired the toxicology and clinical laboratory business of medical center operator Concentra, a subsidiary of Humana Inc.
The microenvironment that supports a cancerous tumor also starves the immune cells that the body sends in to destroy the cancer, University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute scientists revealed in a discovery that holds the potential to significantly boost the performance of breakthrough immunotherapy drugs.
