BG Medicine, Inc. announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Inverness Medical Innovations, Inc.—a global leader in enabling individuals to take charge of their health at home through the merger of rapid diagnostics and health management—for the development and commercialization of a galectin-3 test for Inverness' Triage® Meter Pro®. Galectin-3 is a novel biomarker that may play a role in detecting the development and progression of heart failure.
Aspirin, recommended as a preventive approach for patients at risk of hereditary colorectal cancer, does not provide protection against Lynch syndrome, the most common form of hereditary colorectal cancer, according a study published in the Dec. 11 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.
Contralateral prophylactic mastectomy (CPM), a preventive procedure to remove the unaffected breast in patients with disease in one breast, may only offer a survival benefit to breast cancer patients age 50 and younger, who have early-stage disease and are estrogen receptor (ER) negative, according to researchers at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
An international team of researchers led by prof. Savvas Savvides has unraveled a crucial aspect of the molecular basis of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease.
