Psychogenic diseases, formerly known as 'hysterical' illnesses, can have many severe symptoms such as painful cramps or paralysis but without any physical explanation. However, new research from the University of Cambridge and UCL (University College London) suggests that individuals with psychogenic disease, that is to say physical illness that stems from emotional or mental stresses, do have brains that function differently.
It is well-known that patients who undergo Fontan surgery slowly develop liver fibrosis for years post-operatively. In the past decade, these incidences have been steadily increasing and this is due partly to the need for an accurate diagnostic method.
Officials from Kaiser Permanente and Microsoft on Monday announced that the companies are developing a patient information exchange pilot program, Reuters/Washington Post reports (Kaufman, Reuters/Washington Post, 6/9).
Meridian announced today strong results for the second quarter of 2009, with this being the second consecutive quarter of exceptional revenue and earnings. These results will undoubtedly help Meridian and its parent company, Visionary Integration Professionals (VIP), end 2009 with an exceptional three-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Between 2008 and 2005, Meridian and VIP posted a CAGR of 72.8 percent.
