Argonaute 2 (Ago2) is unique among its family: It is the only one of the four mammalian Argonaute proteins that exhibits endonuclease 'slicer' activity (facilitation of miRNA-guided cleavage of target mRNA).
The spread of lethal diseases from animals to humans has long been an issue of great concern to public health officials. But what about diseases that spread in the other direction, from humans to wildlife. A multidisciplinary team of researchers at the University of Georgia has just been awarded a five-year $2 million Ecology of Infectious Diseases grant from the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health to study the first known case of such a "reverse zoonosis" that involves the transmission of a human pathogen to a marine invertebrate, elkhorn coral.
The nurse residency program at University of Louisville Hospital, a part of KentuckyOne Health, is one of 12 in the nation to receive recognition for consistent, high quality care.
Zargis Medical Corp., a majority-owned subsidiary of Speedus Corp., today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Boston-based Stethographics, Inc. providing an exclusive license to patented, FDA-cleared Stethographics lung sounds analysis technology that automatically identifies clinically significant respiratory sounds.
