The Canadian Cancer Society British Columbia and Yukon today called on the B.C. government to enact legislation to ban the cosmetic use of pesticides that would set a new national standard. The Society is also asking British Columbians to participate in the on-line public consultation.
New research indicates that hospitalized patients with advanced cancer experience many physical and psychological symptoms, and that patients dealing with a higher burden of these symptoms have longer hospital stays and a greater risk for unplanned hospital readmissions.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has prequalified the Alere Pima™ CD4 Test as part of an effort to increase access to rapid and accurate HIV/AIDS monitoring tools. The Alere Pima™ CD4 Test is the first and only point-of-care diagnostic designed for the measurement of absolute CD4 counts to receive such recognition from the WHO, which released its most recent list of prequalified products on November 25, 2011.
A handful of FDA-approved drugs exist for treating individuals with alcohol use disorder but they have been largely ineffective at reducing the high rates of relapse. As such, there remains a critical need to identify and develop alternative pharmacological treatment options.
Scientists at Duke University have released a highly detailed model of connections in the mouse brain that could provide generations of neuroscientists new insights into brain circuits and origins of mental illness, such as depression and schizophrenia.
