The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently released new estimates that one in every 110 children (1 in 70 boys) is diagnosed with autism. Autism has become more common in our children than cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined. Autism affects children from all socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds and places a tremendous economic burden on affected families and society at large, costing up to $3.2 million per child for a lifetime of care and over $35 billion in annual societal cost.
Age disparities exist in the continuum of care for patients with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) with people younger than 45 years less likely to be aware of their infection or to have a suppressed viral load, according to a report published Online First by JAMA Internal Medicine, a JAMA Network publication.
Cancer Treatment Centers of America has been recognized by the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition with the organization's "Clinical Nutrition Team of Distinction Award". Members of the CTCA professional staff will be honored by A.S.P.E.N at its Clinical Nutrition Week Conference in Savannah, GA this January 2014. This award is presented to multi-discipline clinical teams that exemplify excellence in interdisciplinary clinical nutrition practice in compliance with A.S.P.E.N. standards, guidelines and values.
Florida-based biopharmaceutical company Oragenics, Inc. has announced the continued retail expansion of its oral care probiotics EvoraPlus and EvoraKids™ with an initial order from Harris Teeter. It is anticipated that the products will be available at Harris Teeter stores in September 2010.
