Study reveals medium-term impact of COVID-19

Initial findings from a study looking at the longer-term impact of COVID-19 has found that a large proportion COVID-19 patients discharged from hospital were still experiencing symptoms of breathlessness, fatigue, anxiety and depression two to three months after contracting the virus.

Study of over 6,200 impairment ratings spanning 5 years reveals 78% error rate

A study of more than 6,200 impairment ratings spanning 5 years revealed an error rate of 78 percent, resulting in ratings averaging more than twice what was appropriate. Ratings from eight states were examined, with 81 percent of the cases being from California and 91% rated using the Fifth Edition of the American Medical Association Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment.

HHS announces $3.9 million in funding to support Family-to-Family Health Information Centers

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today announced $3.9 million in funding to continue support for Family-to-Family Health Information Centers, non-profit organizations run by families and for families with children with special health care needs. Funding for the centers was extended through 2012 by the Affordable Care Act.

Vaccinating both boys and girls can help eliminate HPV infections

The human papillomavirus causes, amongst other diseases, cancer of the cervix and oropharynx. A Swedish-Finnish study published in The Journal of Infectious Diseases now shows that the most oncogenic HPV types can be eliminated, but only if both girls and boys are vaccinated.
