Queen's University Belfast's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patrick Johnston, whose work has transformed cancer care in Northern Ireland, has been elected as a Fellow of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences.
It used to take several years or sometimes decades to unequivocally identify the genes that cause rare human syndromes that affect very few individuals. Nowadays, however, human geneticists and fly and mouse biologists have the means to work together to integrate their data, which has significantly accelerated the pace of disease and gene discovery.
Our brains not only contain learning mechanisms but also forgetting mechanisms that erase "unnecessary" learning. A research group at Lund University in Sweden has now been able to describe one of these mechanisms at the cellular level.
BSP Biological Signal Processing Ltd., develops and markets innovative systems for non-invasive diagnosis and monitoring of Ischemic Heart Disease based on its proprietary HyperQ technology. BSP recently presented the results of a study on the economic and clinical benefits of the HyperQ stress test in the diagnosis and management of coronary heart disease at the International Congress on Electrocardiology on June 4th, 2010.
